Not surprising in the least

I never really had much investment in this act, but their older stuff was alright. This album, though, is just garish. A total mess.

I used to think these guys were an above average radio rock band by today's standards, but this album is just a series of failed experiments. It's a rare occasion where a band benefited from being generic.

Their first album was consistent and solid. The Boy Who Died Wolf is less consistent but the highs were way higher in my opinion. Stuff like My Name Is Human, Serotonia, and Wolf are pretty far from being generic radio rock. You can hear a lot of Pink Floyd and Zeppelin influence among others. I think My Name Is Human had a really cool sound to it but it's a bit of an outlier. I think moving more in that direction would have been a lot more preferable than what we got on MCID.

So in other words, they don't rock anymore.

ya basically
Canals is decent, and I actually really like Arizona. The rest can fuck off

I just listened to 16 and want to fucking puke. I actually added this band to the database when Mister Asylum came out. Reviewed it hard, was featured, the lot. Fuck this shit.

Yay mutual hatred.
Do yourself a favor and don’t listen to the rest of it, 16 isn’t even close to being the worst here.

The songs that aren't rock outnumber the rock songs, and the songs that are rock are just about right as far as HS goes, but better was expected. Highly Disappointing. MCID = My Career Is Destroyed

He’s been putting some *really* bizarre/delusional shit on Twitter etc recently, he either genuinely doesn’t care that the album bombed with fans or he cares a LOT and it’s knocked him massively

Not as terrible as I was expecting and Snow White rules, but otherwise very unremarkable mainstream rock.

“Drugs“
Possibly, but instead of the shit that gave us Mister Asylum fuck knows what it is now

I know he pops Xanax, which is a pretty solid explanation.
Just quickly scrolling through some of his social media I’d guess he’s on some kind of amphetamine. Dude is straight delusional

Oh wow this actually sucks ass doesnt it, wow.
I remember being so excited for these guys when they blew up, saw them with Chevelle the year before Mr Asylum dropped and the crowd went nuts for them. Lydia was jaw-dropping
Hopefully the next album they do actually sounds like an album, not just a collection of terrible half-reheated ripoffs

“Hopefully the next album they do actually sounds like an album, not just a collection of terrible half-reheated ripoffs“
Yeahhhh the more I listen to this the more I can’t help but question exactly how much of this was written while lucid. Pretty much the entirety of Upperdrugs essentially expresses an extreme necessity to stay high for as long as possible, or else “sleep forever”, whereas seeing “I feel a little better, 'cause I'm super high - Mirror, mirror, please, just let me die” is pretty self explanatory.
My guess is he’s a massive addict and this album is the toxic, fractured, all-over-the-place result of substance, ego, and sudden immense success getting to his head, both stupidly egotistical yet at the same time hugely self-depreciative and negative.
