Yeah, that is certain @kalk, it was a really cool style but not really something they should do on another record because it's just too 'Leprous' I guess

"Especially the staccato riffs had to end, they couldn't take that any further. It got annoying "
Nah, no way. Not a shot. I feel like that's saying Meshuggah shouldn't djent anymore because it's old news. It's a trademark.

I was talking about Leprous. A different band could get away with it, but I don't think Leprous could have pulled that off tbh. Maybe a few tracks, but like 80% of Malina was jagged guitarwork. I like it for what it is, but another record like that? I wouldn't want that in the near future

Caligula's Horse has been keeping that choppy guitar work going, and it's still working. I mean, it's in your dig, so you can't be too tired of it. There are ways to blend it... I get what you're saying. But Leprous really ditched it with this album.

Yea, C-Horse do a great job at keeping it interesting imo. Maybe another record like that wouldn't be as bad as I think, but atm I'm glad they ditched it. It was for the better. Would be okay with them incorporating it again in the future though

I think if they incorporated it throughout this album I would've loved it. They just threw out such a pivotal characteristic of their sound. They've been doing the staccato riffage since their debut. It's hard to accept them not doing it at all, lol.

Nah, they definitely had it on TP. It's sparse throughout. The birthing of it began with that album.

I remember it being more on the Opeth-y style, but I can accept there was traces of a signature sound back then. They're all accomplished musicians, past and current members. Besides, the style really fleshed out on Coal (that chopped up guitars on The Valley nghhhhhhhhhh), and Congregation. Malina was transitional in a sense, reaping the fruits of previous success. This is another step forward, and a one I'm glad they've taken. And for those missing the staccato riffs, there's foreigner and The Sky is Red to hint a sense of continuity.

I really wouldn't have wanted a The Congregation part 2.

Malina pt 2 would've been cool... But still, this is great. Just missing the punch that would've made it superb.

What in the fuck time signature is the sky is red in tho
