"This group sounds like if Paramore wrote their own songs, and that's precisely why they fall short." x2

I grew up on mid-2000s post-hardcore where everything was super catchy and I'm still not feeling this. The lyrics are really rough and the song structures are too straightforward — which helps the hooks stick but, combined with the lyrics, makes this feel really insubstantial. Vocalist is good, but I'd trade the aggression for PVRIS's aptitude for hooks and better lyricism in a heartbeat.

Well, glad you enjoy this anyway Sowing =)

edit: Wow, I bashed the lyrics before hearing the closer...which pretty much confirmed this as a 2 for me.

No I've never ever, ever felt so fucked up

I can't even hide behind my make up

strong contender for worst lyric of 2019

I find it to be ok, I'd compare them more to Paramore and Tonight Alive than PVRIS..

I personally don't disagree that I might be "The next big name" given how accessible it is

Paramore (assuming you mean Farro-era Paramore) never really had the post-hardcore vibes this does. I kinda see the Tonight Alive comparison though, even though they also never dabbled with that genre.

This has interesting sound, but the lyrics are so trite, vague, and repetitive that I can't dig it. Oh I also hate spoken word. So there's that.

Didn't even pay attention to the lyrics, yikes. It's the synthy stuff that turns me off.

I see what Sowing means by saying they are the next big name on the rock field. They are a rock band, they are pretty catchy and have a fair share of accessibility. If they are a good live band they may be in big stages in some time. The album doesn't blow me away though. Maybe some more spins until a final verdict.

The lyrics on this album are very deep. Instrumentally its very solid tho I'll admit a couple of the songs are a little too poppy for my taste. This album is definitely a grower. After a few listens u can get really into it. The first track is one of the weakest for all of you ppl who only listened to the first track and then shut it off. Out of the Blue, Twenty Letters, and Hand in Hand are amazing

I've been listenind to alot of Unwound and Poisin the Well today; I should not have enjoyed this as much as I did. Its definitely an intro record to the scene for people into Pretty Reckless
