The remix for sure, I think it's a significant improvement in basically every way that makes the original hard to listen to for me. They improved a masterpiece.
The original sounds compressed and outdated to me, mainly with regard to the bass and drums. And I think once you get used to the lack of screams the whole thing just feels a lot more cohesive and the atmosphere really comes together; you see how randomly placed they feel. The vocal melodies on this are awesome and the screams really just seem to take away from them when I go back to the original. It really feels like they were included just because "Cynic is a metal band" or something.

I have an obsession with remixes and remasters and I confirm this improves upon the original

Still classic, it is.
Impressive Remix.
In agreement with the 3 previous m8s.

imo it's good but they needed something in the place of the growls cus it feels a bit empty in those spots

I asked google home to play Traced in Air and it put this on. Definitely prefer the original mix

New clip on Instagram sounds a lot less like Humanoid and more like this I'm so hyped.
Sean will be impossible to replace. But if Paul can bring the atmosphere and riffs like he did on this record then there's no doubt Cynic has a bright future. And of course he is still working with one of the best bassists in the business.

Ouch my previous comment hurt to read. RIP best rhythm section ever.

True. I wonder if Cynic can even come back from such a loss.

They posted some snippets of them in the studio in April

That's like the saddest two posts in a row lol. About a year apart, one full of hope, the other realizing 2/3 of the band is now deceased. fuck. I still have some hope though, Paul is enough of a glue to hold together a semblance of Cynic in future projects.

Last solo on King of Those Who Know (Paul’s) is the best thing ever

Assuming you mean the very very last one then 100% agreed, one of my favourite solos ever

The one at 4:15 Has such incredible feel
It’s like “I’m signing off…drifting off into the next realm”

Yeah that's the one. The rest of the track after the solo is also god mode. Reminds me of Christmas time

Finally listened to this. I never particularly liked the growls on the original, kinda glad to have a version without them.
I don't like how scratchy and shallow the overall mix sounds though, such an ugly way to mix metal

I changed idea about this! I'm loving the album (TiA in general I mean) more than ever and here I don't miss the harsh vocals at all. They were pretty goofy already and the whispery/creepy cleans that pop up here and there (like Integral Birth) keep the atmosphere mostly unchanged anyway
edit: actually I'm not sure I agree with myself lol welp
edit 2: yeah I feel that despite being cramped the original all in all feels more natural-sounding and even smoother in certain transitions. Og has more body in general, whereas Remixed sounds a tad too bright in comparison I think. But Remixed undeniably opens up the stage which is pretty cool. I guess this album is always bound to slap

Listening this back to back with original makes this sound so lifeless. It's not just growls they messed with the athmosphere. Album relying heavily on emotions and mood can't be succesfully remixed for the sake of clarity. More is lost than found here.

the better of the two remixes between this and refocus but still prefer the original since it packs more punch
