They are staggering to be honest. Im going to listen to the fall and let it lead into three bridges to see if it flows

‘WHY IS IT AN EP IT'S ALMOST 40 MINS LONG FFS’
I mean it’s still half the length of this one, so when you think of things like that, then yeah why not? However the fact they released practically 2 hours of the highest quality material in less than 18 months is indeed staggering.

Yeah this isn't an ep lol. It's a full album. The important distinction between lp and ep to remember is there is literally 0 difference

‘literally’

I guess if you take an EP to be "a release designated by the band as an EP and one that is shorter than their typical releases" then this counts as an EP. It's just that with this band, "shorter than their typical releases" results in a release of similar length to the full albums of other bands.
|
| |
Yeah there's a full album worth of content on their new "ep". For real tho ep has lost all meaning to me. There's no real criteria for naming your release an lp or ep. You can put out an hour long record and label it an ep if you want

yea well welcome to 2021

It’s a silly argument whichever way you slice it - having said that I’m definitely struggling to see why this couldn’t be labelled an EP, when you consider the context of who created it etc.
Gyro you also stated there’s zero difference, yet declared this a ‘full album’ lol.

I'm inclined to think that there *are* criteria for the proper application of the "EP" label. It's just that the criteria are more complicated than "under x amount of time in length".

Yeah probably, I’d say the criteria would vary dependant on who you ask - what matters (if anything) is how the artists themselves categorise it.
Anyway...
It’s a great continuation of their sound, love how they continue to redefine the use of synths in post, despite this being somewhat reflective of Vertikal/Dawn. Not completely repeating themselves yet building upon their previous groundwork in interesting ways. The production is unsurprisingly stellar yet again.

I was being a bit facetious, demon. I do think that the distinction is pretty arbitrary tho. I could put out a 10 song 1 hr long album rn and call it an ep if I wanted to. I agree that there is a sort of standard that some artists aim for which is usually between 2 and 7ish tracks with like a 20 min run time
|
| |
But yeah regardless, played it through once and it was 🔥

No, no, people, we need to keep talking about the conceptual boundaries of "EP".

regardless of what it is, these dudes putting out 40 minutes of fresh music 1.5 years after a full length is damn impressive
