That is an intriguing high avg for a Lana album. I enjoy a decent amount of her stuff, will have to check.

Lol what
Chan you don't strike me as someone who would be opposed to balanced political views unless you're being sarcastic (or maybe I misunderstand what central political views entail - I merely meant to imply that it's okay to adopt ideologies of both sides of the spectrum in an intelligent way)
|

I'd also identify as centrist, with socialist leanings

I like how the closer ends things but I think I recognize—and you don’t have to follow me here—an antonoffy set of songwriting motifs, and I mean in terms of just putting chords and melody together, that turn me off a bit, and more than that turn me off in the same way as similarly antonoff-heavy albums like masseduction, reputation, melodrama et al. (everything feels highly formulaic and therefore in some weird way sort of uncannily placed within quotation marks) Which doesn’t even mean he’s dominating the songwriting process but just idk yeah that’s how I feel and this album doesn’t really do it for me.
Could be placebo but my two other favorite songs were “doin time” (you know! The sublime song!) and the non-antonoff “the next best American record”

I loved both Melodrama and Masseduction so I guess I'm officially an Antonoff stan.
I draw the line at anyone who associates with Lena Dunham so this leaves me in an awkward position.

I mean I tend to think in terms of producers in a pretty extreme way that I can’t seem to help but I bet a lot of people would find that they liked a lot of music by the same producers in the 21st century when producing is basically making the beat and shit but I get that it doesn’t work that way all the time ummmm yeah

By checking the writing credits it looks like he was much more heavily involved with Melodrama than he was with Masseduction. Still, both were two of my favorite pop albums in recent years.

Oh yeah for sure but I meant the songs from those albums. Like “New York” is classic antonoff

Yeah I think Antonoff is amazing. Everything he touches instantly gets better, from Lorde to St Vincent to Swift to this. Also Bleachers is amazing.

This isn't terrible or anything, I actually kinda dig some of the more beat-oriented tracks, but the whole thing has an icky halsey-ish flavor to it that really puts me off.
