Substantially better than the new Slipknot f.e.
Meaning the 4 is more than solid.

Ahah Doof...I was just relating to Thal's rates and taste, not yours or in a general manner.

About on par with the new Slipknot album for me. New Slipknot is a bit more "fun".

"don't you dare point that on me..."
those 3.5s are pretty unprecise and need some revision.

Danny Carey is such a phenomenal drummer. He writes parts that no one else would think to write. And the dude is 58. Such an impressive performance here.

Loving the atmosphere of every single song on it right after the first listen. Should have a higher average rating than 3.7. Didn't expect to love this after the first listen already but I do, and th 6 songs over 10 minutes don't feel that long.
Now it's colder and late november at least to me it's perfect to listen to this album and enjoy every little small detail I can hear. The electronic sounds also add to the atmosphere.
"Mockingbeat" might just be another filler but I think it fits nicely after the awesome 7empest.
Might be a 4.5 from me very soon

tbh it's grown off of me a little bit since I wrote this. Still a great album but it doesn't impress as much with subsequent listens

well for me it's even getting better. Of course the musicianship is great as always but what I really like is the atmosphere. And atmosphere is always one of my favourite things in music.
Sometimes it has a futuristic feeling, sometimes spacey, always autumnal.
The simple electronic sounds and effects in every song really add a lot to the atmosphere. I like that the songs aren't all about technicality all the time, many minutes of every 10 minute-songs are more about letting the atmosphere work and unfold slowly.
Also sometimes I like to play games while listening to it, like the underwater world of Sonic 3. Or Technocop (a lesser known old Sega game). Or running around in Skyrim at night while seeing northern lights.
7empest is perfect to listen to while playing Turrican II (Amiga 500), first world first level.

Also, at least atmosphere-wise this might even be my favourite album by Tool! I completely feel it, it immediately takes me away to places I imagine and it's great there!
I'm glad I didn't check this album out before late november it fits perfectly. And all those small little details in every song...

yeah those electronic sounds for example, in every song, they're quite simple but very effective! They add immensely to the atmosphere. Maybe many Tool fans don't really care about them but I really like them.
Or in Invincible after 2 minutes for example, the sound the drums make is very nice. I really like the production.
