The fact that so many riffs are recycled from other (better) Tool records just makes this that much harder to enjoy.
Think I said this way back somewhere when I first heard it, but it feels like the songs never really climax. There's points where it sounds like they're building up to something sweet and then it just doesn't happen.

All this contrarian criticism for Tool is and always was so cliched. If anything, all songs on Fear Inoculum are too short for their greatness. What a hysterical and fidgety way to admit that you don't have enough attention span when listening to music.
I could say the same thing for J.S. Bach when his writing becomes repetitive (75% of the time) but then again I understand how music works and don't get hungry for burgers in the middle of it.
