Scorching take: LP5 is really good, so is the earlier stuff, and so is the later stuff (to varying degrees and with exceptions ofc)
Something something law of large numbers + internet communities etc. I find it kinda bizarre how much stock people put into judging fanbases and avoiding music accordingly. Fair shout on the discussion becoming far less fun though, base, I feel ya.

Yeah but what I find weird is bands like Seal are waaaaayyyyy more popular than bands like Autechre yet Seal fans seem to not really fall into this obsession with analyzing fan perceptions of the band, or how that in any way relates to the music you’re hearing.

I think that’s just a problem with basically anything outside of the mainstream, but not completely obscure either. Like swans or converge or warp idm

Solid references, and I do agree, but I think it's very easy to move past. Much like our friend Ava here

Although I did post this fucking essay that references exactly what we're talking about once or twice, so don't listen to me

Don’t you guys know music/art isn’t about enjoyment? It’s actually about showing off your topsters charts and last fm scrobble counts and checking off the list of albums included in those premade genre charts you see on 4chan a lot. Either you listen to music you think makes yourself cool because most of your friends never heard of it, or listen to it because you think it makes you cool because you liked it before everyone else liked it too.

The first track is so complacent and unforgiving...lol

8 hours? Damn...
Ok, how often do people that like this actually listen to the whole thing? Or is it a one and done trophy

i might be the biggest Autechre fanboy on this site and I even think it’s too much.
never even made it through 1 disc in a single sitting.

I challenge that assumption hype =P I don't think it's meant to be listened to all the way through. it's really more a compilation of 4 albums that were released a week apart

this record also came out at a really weird time in my life and I feel like I never really truly “heard” it. been waiting for another wave of obsession to hit so I can really dive in.

I don't really think of, or judge these as albums because the material doesn't feel intended for the format. I might listen to one song, a whole Session in one sitting (usually Session 2), or the tail end of one and carry on in the next. Where I start and stop isn't important, so long as I'm enjoying yourself while I'm there. And I always am.

Makes a lot of sense, thanks. ^
NTS 1 has a bit of a slow start for me, but I really love 2 so far.

"tt1pd" is a fucking monster of a track"
Hard agree but I wasn't prepared for how big the monster was actually going to be. Will be attempting a full and punishing listen to this full beast in the coming months.

I've never been to an Ae gig. I'm scared, I don't think I'd fit in the crowd as I am slightly shy and wear glasses.
