Never watched a fantano review in my life

I never get the against-Fantano's elitism either.
@potsy, you're not missing anything tbf.

"Haru Nemuri if Fantano hadnt reviewed them"
This is an absurd claim. I know that artist, and I haven't watched a single review from this guy. It's not that hard to discover new music on your own. Especially there are plenty of avenues to discover Japanese music, without Fantano giving it exposure. I don't know why Fantano has so much clout, honestly. I can't see what he has that any rando on Sput couldn't do the same with. What's his background?

He manages to irritate me all the same. He just has an annoying "punch me" face and big "i ride a bicycle" energy
|
| |
He's just got this really particular kind of west coast hipster-nerd energy that i do not fucks with
|
| |
he was the first to do it on youtube more or less
|
| |
look how far a talentless schmuck like doug walker got off of being an early adopter on a massive platform like that

"He's just got this really particular kind of west coast hipster-nerd energy that i do not fucks with"
LMAO basically this. All his YT video thumbnails have that punch-able face you mentioned, too.

But did you hear about her before or after he reviewed Haru to Shura? Because if it was after, chances are whoever you heard it from only got wind of it because of him.

Most people are really shit at finding new Japanese music on their own and only listen to artists that have received some English-language coverage (incl. RYM discussion), like Ichiko, Haru Nemuri, Otoboke Beaver, CHAI, Boris, envy, Ryo Fukui, etc. That English-language coverage barely scratches the surface of Japan's music scene/history.

Well, Fantano is definitely a popularity booster. He's consistent about what he's been doing, uploading album review since the early time of YouTube. As the first person doing so, it's natural for him to garner fanbase over the time of you're wondering how he got his clout.
Dimsim's claim about Haru Nemuri is a bit hyperbolic if it were to refer to this thread. But I don't think he's completely wrong about it either.

Yeah, I heard Haru to Shura post-Fantano and discovered it via Sput - had always assumed it was a trickle-down. Ichiko has been decently successful at home and very comfortably acclaimed within the rym bubble for ages now, so I think that for her the Fantano treatment is more a single reflection of a wider breakthrough that was already taking place and/or overdue
Am about a third of the way into a new rev draft for the new one, should hopefully have it up in a few hrs

yo Johnny in case you haven't seen it here's the songwriting credits for the new album for accuracy purposes. http://i.imgur.com/HvawW1S.jpg when the album was first announced i assumed Ichiko didnt write any music on it but actually she wrote a bit under half
just figured we should nip this one in the bud cuz pretty much zero English reviews have mentioned Taro yet, so i think everyone's assuming that Ichiko wrote the whole album herself

Ah yeah, I caught that on Jps and did a slight double take on it but cheers for the heads up! Most defs going to be touching on it early on
|

Had concerns about that originally when I heard she didn't write the single, but it was obvious she wrote some of the songs after hearing the album.

That's a bit whack tbh

New album having almost twice as many ratings as this is a wild scene
|
| |
ah yes the Fantano effect
|
| |
What do we know is happening around the entire net around this album though? I don't expect the general Sput populace to care much about Aoba Ichiko compared to wherever else people talk about her.
