most overrated of the year, I'm calling it

in danger of dropping to a 3 out of 5, bit disappointing after Flower Boy where he seemed to get the mix right

It’s great, I’m just surprised it’s getting so much radio/pop culture play. The production is not radio friendly.

I still think the tracks are more condensed than flower boy, which works to it’s benefit.

This is only just below Flower boy for me. Only Just.

Yeah this mix is iffy to me... but the songs are so good it doesn't really matter.

I don't know how I feel about him going 'full pop/R n' B' which is effectively where he's gone here/is going - I mean, I hate most R n'B vocals and prefer Tyler's approach as anything is better than smooth R n' B bland fodder...but let's be honest, the dude can't actually sing.

Not that his rapping was top tier either...so he's never been the most vocal-centric which is weird for a 'hip hop performer'. It just all fell in place on Flower Boy but I find this a bit saccharine and disposable. Last time I spun the album I made sure it was sunny, headphones on, relaxed walk, was waiting for transcendence...it didn't go to the next level.

If this don't work for me summer 2019 it never will is my worry and is destined to fall away to a 3 and ignominy.

Can't believe it's AOTY on Rate Your Music, can't get my head around that. I guess that buys tyler another three or four chances, at least.

I think sometimes people get confused thinking so long as something's catchy it's inherently good - the whole of this album is catchy (just about).

Unfortunately I'd say at least a third of it is catchy but quite poor quality...but still catchy. That isn't everything.

Example GONE, GONE is horrific. Sounds like something written for a school play.

I DON'T LOVE YOU ANYMORE is equally underwritten and inane.

The album closer is the most average soul tune I've ever heard, totally average. Also the lyrics on that one are distractingly cringe.

'I Think' and 'Boy is a Gun' are the highlights

The last three songs DO sound like music for 10 year olds so I was only a bit off on Rowan’s age range.

Syringe thy ears.

I’d say the album up to the last three tracks warrants a 3.5...the last three a 1.5. It’s whether that shitty death rattle of a closing stretch actually influences my listening experience and grade. It might do, in which case a 3 seems the way to go.

What the fuck? That's literally the best song.

It’s two songs right? I meant the GONE, GONE half that opens it. That’s garbage that section imo

The second half or the track (THANK YOU) is ok enough

Oh. I mean you can't really separate it, but yeah Thank You is better. Gone, Gone is great too and serves its purpose nicely.

“Whether it’s rain or shine...”

Sounds like the Muppet Show - first three minutes are 0.5 out of 5 shameful

“Poison in my gumbo...” second half section isn’t the quality of the best three tunes but it’s ok, pretty slight and uneventful, and the last minute and a half (the thank you bit?) is also alright but nothing majorly special, interlude-y

Multi part doesn’t make it King Crimson, peeps get over excited my anything multi part

just sounds like 2-3 ideas for songs that don't get fleshed out so they were like "fuck it, just make 1 song with 'em"

lazy

Idk doesn't sound lazy at all to me

This album still hasn't gotten old. I think my most played of the year so far.
