I listened to the album 15 times already, twice at the band's listening party in Chicago. For me, I prefer Warforged live to the album. They are great live.

DDDeftoneDDD - This is an underrated masterpiece of 2019.

I think it's good. It's definitely not bad. I just don't feel like I'm in a position to say just HOW good it is. It's also kinda long.

It definitely does suffer from being a riff-salad, but that feels less like compositional immaturity and more an exercise in making the music as disorienting as possible.

Honestly I ordered a vinyl because I figured I'd really like it by the time the first presses are sold out. Really regret not getting Horrendous - Idol.

So yeah if you don't like this, just give it another listen later down the road

Yeah I agree, this album sucks. Triggered drums and glossy production makes pretty much all of the heavy parts feel like insufferable noise, lacking character and artistic purpose. I pretty much hate every DM album that’s has ever fallen in this ballpark production wise though

That’s another good point actually, the production is ass, it’s one of those recordings which throws the kitchen sink at you with little in the way of dynamics or subtlety.

To claim this has no dynamics is incredible...subtlety is obviously more arguable (because of the abrubt transitions) but even there I disagree.

Plus...the drummer is as beast as a cool guy. Check the video guys...

There is a big time lack of dynamics within sections in terms of the way it’s mixed. There is absolutely no dynamic separation between notes/hits during the heavier parts. In addition to dynamics though this type of modern production on DM album kills all semblance of atmosphere and character. It just feels too glossy.

Take an album like Close to a World Below; dynamics are definitely not the strong suit, nor is it a super old school production, but the dirtier job with more open and breathing guitar and drum sounds lend it a lot of atmosphere. And that’s just one example, there’s endless albums out there that are take a lot of their character from the mix as opposed to (or in addition to) the composition.

Meanwhile I hate almost all of the planetary dualities and archspires and fallujahs of the world, which this takes more cues from in terms of a production.

Archspires, fallujahs, and faceless suck, agreed.

This ain't too bad though. I'm one of those people who don't mind albums with messy song structures.

“Plus sliceofpaper, I joined sput so we can speak about those things without being called an elitist.”

I love you dude, but you are basically the only person in the thread who’s being a bit dickish about their views. Why do you keep on adding unnecessary jabs about Kacey Musgraves or considering other outputs outside of Sput if you don’t want to be seen as an elitist? Elitism isn’t necessarily a contrarian position. It’s being snobby about what you perceive to be the correct opinion.

Yap. Prob you re right there ramon. I don t think I was being elitist though (mainly after a narrow conversation on production dynamics ahah), expressed myself wrongly trying to explain this can have other points of analysis, outside techdeath specs. And I apologized for Musgraves allready. Just mind that people now are warned to approach this carefully and with apprehension in here, "ei not that bad guys" x)

Pretty sure most people who would care to check this are those already familiar with similar bands in the genre, I don’t think it’s fair to assume it’s going over people’s heads just because they rate it low. Sorry if that wasn’t what was being implied but that’s how it comes across

Oh not about the rates...2s are pretty mean btw lol but the willing to comment is different for sure. No biggie, Ill stick around. Found this album mindfucking tbh.

I like Relentless Mutation, Faceless sucks agreed and I don t give a minor about what Fallujah is about (but I guess I don t need to)

The Flesh Prevails is a fun album if you like an average Tech Death record with a bunch of ambient shit that gets ruined by shitty clean production thats overly compressed.

Funny thing is I still own my copy of it from high school. As you can tell Fallujah were a band that really did not stick with me for that long.
