Reviewing is like
Fun bro
You have never experienced the wildly cathartic dangerous thrill of writing a novel-length review on why Symbolic is a hard 1
You wouldn't understand the joy of contrarian opinions

I get what this albums trying to do, its brutal/technical death metal, with very nocturnal/sinister sounding tones, the songwriting is just too incoherent for my liking, I do have a slight appreciation for it now because it's some pretty unique stuff, though I'd be lying if I enjoyed even a single song from start to finish

I've realized this is Inferi if was more black metal and dissonant death metal influenced, my biggest hang up with it is it's incredibly incoherent song structures. It's a 4.5 cause it's one of the most unique albums I heard in death metal. I was so harsh on it initially cause I liked everything about it, but the hard to follow structure threw me off that much, and god the light switch flick transitions are still so jarring..

I still get why I was so put off by this at first though, I wasn't used to dissonant death metal at that time, this album got me into dissodeath eventually.

So, it’s been quite the journey with this album, huh. This album took me the longest to ever get into an album. After diving deeper into Vildhjarta, I’ve come to see this as their tech death counterpart, which is pretty crazy how well they align. It’s like both bands stumbled upon these sudden key changes at the same time—what are the odds? It’s hard to believe a downtempo deathcore band and a tech death band would even know about each other. Along with those surprising transitions, there’s this dark, alluring atmosphere that genuinely creeped me out when I first listened to it. That’s part of why I was initially turned off; since it was released on The Artisan Era, I was expecting another Inferi clone, not a band that would leave me feeling terrified. And yeah, Vildhjarta has some seriously eerie melodies too—but man, “Voice” on this album still makes me shudder a bit. I now wish they continued this roman numeral series.. I know the vocalist who was the main songwriter is gone.. so guess this is all we have, bummer. That 2022 album was a major disappointment.
