everyone talks about the solo/melodies on I Appear Missing but never get into how haunting and terrifying the lyrics are. I mean dude literally died and came back to life and wrote a classic rock song about it, I feel like that should be discussed. that song live was an absolute life-changer

I go missing,

No longer exist

One day I hope

I'm someone you'd met

Shock me awake

Tear me apart

Pinned like a note in a hospital gown

Deeper I sleep

Further down

A rabbit hole never to be found

It's only falling in love

Because you hit the ground

Certainly among the best songs this decade. Gave this a listen after your review and decided that deserves a rating bump

The strangest thing about it is that he claims that the stories of him dying and the whole knee surgery thing were completely exaggerated and never happened... But they were stories that he told

What

Didn't he talk, multiple times, in interviews about him really dying in the hospital for a while. How did it never happen? He was lying?

"In June 2016, Homme clarified that the knee surgery he had was in no way connected to his "death", and that this story was created by "somebody else". He added that the real situation involved him going "in too deep" with drugs."

Don't remember reading about the drugs part before but that works too I guess

But that only states there is no connection between his knee surgery and him dying. It doesn't say he made-up the story about him actually dying in the hospital.

To this day I'll never understand why I Appear Missing is the track that gets the most praise minus the lyrics.

Still excellent album though.

Yeah the guitar solo is cool, but chorus just plods on and on with no energy and it kinda kills the song for me.

Gottq disagree there. I love how huge the chorus is and imo it's full of energy

In the chorus, not the whole song.
