It's funny how his voice has only gotten better while his lyrics have only gotten worse

It might just be the production by I thought his vocals on TBEITBN were a lot more convincing than Palms. Not sure why Deeper Wells is getting praise other than superficially going hard. It's not an interesting song.

I think the stint working at a church conditioned Dustin to get super on-the-nose with his lyricism and that can certainly be fine in doses but the elimination of specifics (let alone nuance) in this album cycle really oughta be re-evaluated before they go forward. I don't mind them trending towards a more mainstream sound musically but Dustin's settling for less with his lyricism whether he realizes it or not and it's super frustrating. Surely he's got more in him than this

On a lighter note, in spite of all that I've been jamming this a ton. Songwriting-wise these tracks blow the weaker half of Palms away

[2], imagine Dustin now singing on Vheissu...

"I think the stint working at a church conditioned Dustin to get super on-the-nose with his lyricism"

which is funny because he's gotten pretty sour on a lot of churchy things after his time there

Finally get a chance to spin this a few times in solitude and soak it in (was on vacation for the past week). Really really like it. May bump to a 4. If all of Palms was in this vein, it would probably sit somewhere in the middle of my Thrice album rankings.

Man it just boggles my mind that they left these off and kept some of the tracks that they did. Has anyone read about why or any word from the band? I guess they just thought the tracks didn’t fit. I disagree, but hey, it’s their music, their choice.

T/t slays.

I think it's likely they really like all the songs on Palms. At this point in their career, I imagine they have full creative control, and can choose which songs make the album.

True. Don’t think they would put it out if they didn’t. There are a few great tracks on Palms, but it’s just so bland and dull overall imo.

Yes, most of them are just tepid at best. Very uncharacteristic of these boys.

Surprised this didn't get more interest when it came out. I didn't even hear of it til now

A Better Bridge and Stumbling West are low key two of the best songs Thrice has put out in ten years

A Better Bridge sounds like it was recorded through a PVC pipe.

The entirety of the Palms recordings is one big lesson in how not to record and mix rock music.

This EP really surprised me. All four of these songs should've been on Palms, or at least used on their next album.

Yeah Palms could have been so much better if they cut some of that and added all of this. Would be a 4 most likely.

When it first got announced, it was only available thru Record Store Day. It didn't become available for a couple months after in digital format so I think most kind of forgot about it by the time we could actually listen to it without having a physical copy.

Also, it kind of came off as a Palms B-side when they announced it, so that didn't help either with the lukewarm reception that album has here.
