out of all the albums i've heard, i could compile a mixtape of probably 10 really worthwhile songs. would be far easier to compile an album of bad ones.

Qwerty's old account before it got blocked on RYM was my source on all things Townsend - he was a huge fanboy and took great pride linking stuff where Townsend would basically claim his music was 'proper music' and certain other music was 'lesser'.
Sadly Qwerty's account is now ashes.

Yeah, I must be. Can't remember the last time someone disliked a musician's music because someone once told them they shit talked other music. Lol.
Reminds me of an ex flatmate who disliked Jason Momoa and didn't watch anything he was in because he supposedly cheated on Lisa Bonet. xD

Fair enough, it could be me mixing stuff up - that account is gone and Qwerty had his own 'anti-hipster' music agenda - I seemed to remember he linked some Dev stuff to support that, maybe not. I can't go check now.
Anyway, Dev has a very loyal fanbase who will follow him to Ziltoid and what have you

lmao. i just meant there's a lot of gossip on sputnik in general. i don't think that's why doof dislikes this, but i think it fuels the fire. i can't say whether or not i like this, probably won't listen, based on his discog though i can assume i won't dig this.

Gonna slap a 4 on this for now, but it definitely could grow once I give it a few more listens

Also I never said I don't like Townsend, to me he's just another Joe making music, I don't have a Ziltoid tattoo but I quite like his earlier stuff
So to me then it's always interesting when you can't listen to an artist because they go so...deeply in one direction that turns you off
It's fascinating. I really liked Qwerty's account, best user on RYM until they banned him, so I had a weird fascination with Townsend as that was his favourite artist - and it made me try a few more of his albums.
That's the story.

Also, doof, I’d bet anything he was linking was from before 2007 if it was real. Dev cleaned up and mellowed our around that time, having a kid and going sober.

I dunno man, I think Addicted is super fun, theres tons of great stuff off of Ghost, Casualties of Cool is great...
I mean there are a few albums I don't like as much but I'm not really feeling any of these arguments tbh
I also don't get a cultish vibe from Devin fans at all like I do from bands like Tool or Radiohead.
Every Devin fan I've come across has been pretty chill and level headed. I mean they're cool with their artist going into pop and country territory lol

bgillesp - Could be, he did link very old stuff.
Wish his account was still there because he was very entertaining and any Townsend fan should have given it a peruse.
Too many sensitive souls complained about him, but in reality his lists and reviews were always intended to be humorous rather than insulting.

Dev fans, myself included (although I try to avoid going to much into this), do tend to have a “he can do no wrong” complex. Most of his hardcore fans look at him as a supreme musical genius, and while I tend to side with that, I can see how it comes across as cultish.
