they're mostly done with another album and are currently working on yet another

this is apparently also not the original black album. they had a completely different album fully recorded and intended to be released as the black album when the Africa cover blew up, so they recorded this and released it as the black album instead to capitalize on their newfound pop success
so there's one album already recorded but shelved, another they've almost finished, and another they're in the middle of working on. we may get three more Weezer albums within the next year or so.

"we may get three more Weezer albums within the next year or so"
they'll probably release them a year or two apart so that they don't have to bother recording for a while, but they can still collect the $$$ in the meanwhile

they haven’t given a shit about a release in a decade. also, this record reminds me of Man of the Woods by JT

I didn't get this impression from the interview, just that they re-jigged the album and made it probably more radio-friendly after Africa got huge. for instance the CKTH video was for a different song. but I don't think there's an entire other Black album sitting in the vaults, just some different versions
OK Human sounds fucking phenomenal tho

when rivers says "die die you zombie bastards" backed, somehow, by beach-style acoustic guitar playing, i felt that...?

Btw Sowing, your average comes out to a 3.4 based off of your track by track ratings. Should prolly update your rating.

Just listened to this for the first time, and I feel like it's basically Pacific Daydream II. I actually think I prefer Pac Daydream simply because it had a stretch of three incredible songs. I thought the singles lacked personality compared to their other work, but somehow the rest of the album has even less. These songs just feel so directionless, like they just come and go and accomplish nothing. I think the production is partially to blame, like with songs like "The Prince" and "Byzantine" (which kinda reminded me of "Burnt Jamb" for some reason) that were decently written but just sounded shallow and repetitive. Also, so many of the melodies just feel... awkward? As if they switch to a weird note halfway through or have some instrumental layer that feels like it's in the wrong key. This was also a problem I had with Pac Daydream, but it feels even more apparent here. Even "High as a Kite" had this, which annoyed me. But yeah, those just some quick takes. Also Rowan, your review was great even though I didn't really agree with it.

A lot of discussion for an album no one thinks I good :/
Looking forward to an actually decent 'big hitter' to come out in 2019, makes me look like a negative ned with all the more mainstream releases being dreck so far this year

I felt like half of this album made me cringe and the other half was unremarkable. I'd be happy to forget this ever existed
