I don’t disagree that TVU does use that stuff but overall Daughters just makes for a much more harsh listen so the comparison is a bit lost on me.

And yea the reviewer doesn’t have much in his ratings that would make me think he’d enjoy this

It's not about enjoying it, I didn't even look at his ratings, but what he wrote makes me think that really hasn't listened to a lot of music. I wonder how would he react to Fushitsusha or something.

I disagree. I think the reason it had its effect on me might be because it is new for me. In that regard the review might be a good piece for people who're not familiar with this genre and only see lauding applause.

Das Leben der Anderen is a top notch movie.

Other than that, the review is well written, but there are parts of it which need to be addressed. While it is true that after four tracks there still isn't a glimpse of vocal melody, you just need to wait less than three minutes to get "Less Sex", which is the breath of fresh air that, at that point of the record, everybody is waiting for. That melody is built on a standard minor scale, so it's nothing cacophonic or out of the ordinary.

Also, the very definition of "music" is a philosophical matter that's not so easily solved. I remember reading "music is everything you listen to when you have the intention to listen to music" (can't remember who said it), so yeah, music could be anything related to sound. Is Stockhausen music? Is 4:33 music? Can we go as far as to claim that YWGWYW is not music?

That said, being able to give a negative opinion about a popular album or vice versa is the reason why I decided to join Sputnik in the first place, and your review is very well written. I was afraid this was going to be a "people like this record because they're pretentious hipsters" review, but I'm glad I was proven wrong.

this album is disturbing, I initially found it too depressing and murky, now I spin it daily. Less Sex is probably my favourite, the atmosphere on that track just clicks with me. great review, I get what you mean completely

not gonna lie, this is one of the best reviews I have ever read. Because it considers both sides of it and has a conclusion everybody can understand (at least imo). I can really understand why you give the (compared to the average) rather low score and you clearly see where the high scores are coming from - all in a humble and genuine fashion. That's how you talk about art and music, I guess. I bow in respect.
