@SitarHero: I was surprised how much I didn't mind Mangini when I went through the albums. Saw a video comparing Portnoy to Mangini and it portrayed Mangini as the snare-basher with no regard to dynamics, not Portnoy.

Yes I go through Portnoy moods, but for the most part I think the guy is a little overrated. And I am not a fan of his snare sound and usage.

Mangina talk is funny because in literally every Dream Theater vid I watch there is a huge conversation going on about how much he sucks and what he's doing wrong lol

Mangini is boring
Portnoy is overindulgent
Personally I prefer Portnoy because he's at least interesting to listen to but both have their problems
They should have gone with Marco Minnemann after Portnoy left

Yeah, there's that snare again. Sometimes it's tolerable, but I was listening to A Change of Seasons a couple of days ago and as much as I love that song Portnoy sure does get in the way a lot. That's one thing you can never accuse Mangini of. Getting in the way of the other musicians. The most obnoxious thing about him is his damn cymbal placement on his kit.

Imagine if they chose Bobby Jarzombek. Fucking beast in terms of technical ability, creativity, and elevating the music.
But I'm glad he's in Fates since they're still composing great stuff
