The only time I find dramatic music grating is when it borders on the melodramatic. I feel like this is to melancholy to be cheesy? Just my opinion though, curious where you think the cheesiness comes from.

I want it to be dramatic! I'm not sure how to describe it, but I just don't really feel invested in these songs. There's a lot of stuff I like on paper but when it comes together, I don't like it. I really think it comes down to the production because it goes in so many different directions and most of them are fighting against the songs imo

There's a lot of white boy soul singer preening on this album imo, that combined with the relentlessly lovestruck lyrics comes off as cheesy to me

And those things are honestly some of my favorite parts of this lol. Obviously this doesn’t share much with them, but it hits all of the notes that make me love Broadway musicals as well. So obviously emotional and yeah, maybe cheesy, but damn do they make me feel something. So good at honest emotional manipulation without ever feeling fake.

Like, lyrically, there is enough ambiguity to think "is this really a song about love?" And I am inclined to interpret it all much more philosophically, ultimately. Though the romantic packaging certainly concretises it and make it a very human album. Great lyricism, to achieve all that.
