Darius, you'd be correct. It falls more in line with Angel Guts than Forget.

@robsona But to get to your question, his tone is similar to one Stefan Burnett, yes. His vocals on this really remind me more of A Promise and the louder segments of La Foret.

I'd say Angel Guts was very, very upfront. Honestly speaking, nothing on this comes close to being as unnerving as something like Cinthya's Unisex. As for where to go next, check Knife Play.

I like this band and their albums but to me it's like, there's Knife Play and then a buncha diminishing returns thereafter heh

Xiu's been one of those bands I've come to appreciate more and more with time. Those first four albums (Knife Play/A Promise/Fabulous Muscles/La Foret) are all somewhere in "best-of-decade" range for me, which isn't necessarily hard since the 00s doesn't contain much brilliant releases as this one does perhaps. After those, they kinda fluctuated in quality mainly due to an ungodly amount of lineup changes, and promptly came close to bottoming out by Women as Lovers. I'd say they're in the middle of a career renaissance although their tendency to put anything and everything out works against them when we get a Forget or an Always, then follow it up with an Angel Guts or a Girl With Basket of Fruit.

Lowering the rating on this is a crime. Imo their last three are the closest theyve come to topping off Knife Play especially with this one.

Agreed, I think they're putting out some of their best stuff these days.

Angel Guts > Twin Peaks > Unclouded Sky > Forget > GWBOF is a hell of a stretch.

Mid period Xiu Xiu kind of lost me, although I need to give Always a proper listen again.
