I hear Norma Jean more than that

I hear no TDWP or Norma Jeam tbh. The bands that come up the hardest for me are Eighteen Visions, Love Lost But Not Forgotten, A Days Refrain, Neil Perry, You and I, I Have Dreams, Poison the Well, On Broken Wings, Spitfire, Scarlet, Scars of Tomorrow, and Skycamefalling.

Yeah I don’t hear any of that really at all

The clean vox are 18V and PtW af and they do the whole Screamo/core combo that bands like I Have Dreams, LLBNF, You and I, and Neil Perry do. Norma Jean have a more Mathcore and Noise Rock oriented sound.

I like this but I really don’t see very much of the skramz influence this band apparently has. It sounds like a cross between early 2000s mathcore and mid-late 2000s scenecore with a bit of skramz and nu-metal thrown in. “Real” screamo never had this much chugging and breakdowns lol but I still enjoy it besides the dumb band name. I like metalcore so it’s still enjoyable even if it’s not trve skramz.

There isn’t much skramz on this, you’re right. Their previous two LPs had a bit more of that going on but it’s mostly been shed here

Who cares tho just don’t listen

Hank’s avatar makes me picture him as a cat so his condescending remarks come across as endearing rather than toxic tbh what a lil cutie

Darius youve only listened to Vanity lol
18V werent the most consistent band but they knew how to do their style better than any of their shitty rip-offs did.
I also dont think this album is Screamo either but I think there were a few Screamo bands that are comparable to this. And yeah as Jester pointed out their two EPs from 2017 were more Screamo.

Alright I guess I played myself. *I* always thought 18v was bad but lots of people I know suck their dicks so maybe I just missed the boat

Yeah I think thats a bit of why 18V are still a mixed reception band to this day even with their status as a classic core band. Their formula and image has been replicated to death. Vanity really was the album that set the ball rolling for what Metalcore was like in the 2000s which is a shame because its heavier and not as straight-forward as what came after it. Their 90s records though are more true Metallic Hardcore and they were way heavier than even a lot of the bands of that time back then, hell Lifeless was pretty Death Metal influenced and Kevin actually had a lower vocal register back then.

Yeah the heavier stuff I did like a little bit more but it just was never *raw* enough for me I guess. It’s of that same vein of stuff like on broken wings and black my heart that for the most part I found to be pretty predictable and decent for like BRINGING THE MOSH but when it came to actual substance I found it to be lacking. Then again when those bands were in their hay day I was way more into the at the gates rip-off metalcore bands and when I got into hardcore I went down a more abrasive dense road so I probably just missed that whole subsection. Know tons of people that swear by it tho

On Broken Wings are a fun jam though Black My Heart are pretty average to me. I find Eighteen Visions to have more variation to them than those sort of bands do.
I had my At the Gates-core phase too lol.

This album is the best album to come out of this year. I doubt anything will top it. The scene revival is real.

This isnt really much of a Scene revival. More like a 2001-2004 core revival. Scene is more like 2005 and onwards.
I too bout that anything is gonna top this album too. Easily these guys are the best band to come out in Hardcore recently.
