People give this movie sequel a lot of flack. It's really good, and the soundtrack is great.

Do they? I've heard a lot of people claim that this one is better than the original.

2049 is better in a lot of ways imo, for one thing it feels like a much more ambitious and complete story than the original, which has multiple versions with different endings none of which are particularly satisfying.

There's also like no character development to be found except maybe the villain at the end, which is an amazing scene (the Tears in the Rain speech). I find it genius in more aesthetic ways like the atmosphere, design of the world, visuals/special effects, the music obviously.

Ridley Scott's later assertion that Deckard is a replicant is also dumb, so I'm glad someone else took the helm this time and let the viewer decide for themselves if it's true or not while not really treating it as that important in the grand scheme of things.

It's the perfect sequel for an already perfect movie, that's for sure, I love both.

The inception/adaptation and mostly the execution of the first movie puts it above all (potential) sequels, end of story. That being said, 2049 is an expertly crafted sequel.

Love both of them to bits. Brilliant movies, with great soundtracks. I think the sequel was superbly done.

I think they both complement each other well, I don't compare them like that at all

never understood how people sit through the middle section of the original and not think that movie is supremely flawed at best

yeah it starts and ends well (in the better edits) but jesus fucking christ

I’ll second what rock said.

The first one is a pioneering effort bettered by few, the second one is incredible as it mines the origional source.
