Drunk is not great, his other two albums are great. And obnoxious or not he has more talent in his left nut than this dude or any of the other mediocre soul-lite wannabe's people worship have in their entire bod
Besides, three quarters of the essence of the genre is how tongue-in-cheek it is.

Listen to louis cole if you want to make comparisons to thundercat, much better example

honestly like Drunk the most because at least it knows it's dumb and fully leans into it. I mean that album is fucking funny. there are a few really good songs on each release tho

Rowan you have like horseblinders to music that isnt mainstream or critically acclaimed and it shows in how vanilla basic your taste is and how wildly inaccurate your assessments are
Jammed this and it was decent even tho mac sucks at singing and I cant tell his mouth fro his eyebrows but yeah this isnt even in the same ballpark as thundercat, crazy absurd comparison

Lol
I just mean you make very assertive/authoritative claims and I think those and your reviewing skills would both benefit from filling in the gaps in your musical knowledge by exploring some music in all these genres you talk about that arent just like the one emulative mainstream album of any given year. Just a thought. I'm not even being squirrely I swear, I think a little exploration beyond the surface would go a long way for your critic cred.

But more importantly can someone else validate me on the eyebrow thing?

I mean I think you're overreacting to me just, like, not really liking some of Thundercat's annoying tendencies a bit lol. but on the other hand you're prolly not wrong, cos this is sputnikmusic, so it's not really a cred I'm losing sleep over. on a different site I would probably not make wildly broad judgement calls and be more rigorous with listening to music and that. but again, this is sputnik, so like... y'know

Lol fair but it's not just because of your thundercat mac miller comparison, this just happened to be the latest example that made me think it. You ARE staff but this IS sput so I guess you could really go either way with it and say it totally matters or that it doesnt matter at all. But I wouldnt even say anything if I didnt think you were missing out on entire worlds of music that you might love based off your staple artists.
|
| |
I wonder what even is the incentive of being staff on sput btw, has anyone ever actually used it as a stepping stone to being a professional critic or at least reviewing for a more reputable source or is it just like a glorified hobby tag
