A vocoded, autotuned ‘voice’ drooled out from the ‘tortured soul’ of the spawn of some z list celeb knockabout.
Packaged, augmented and sold as a generation representing, epoch defining reality.
Fuck off. Fuck you and bollocks.

so many freakin ballads, i'm so bored and I gave their debut a 4/5.
I do find the idea of this instagram-aesthetic in band form coming out with this generation's OK Computer very compelling - or at least fitting. but this ain't it. at best this is maybe our generation's American Idiot.
like I straight up just don't think these guys have the songwriting chops to do it. everything is in place for this to be the extremely online gen z defining album but it's just filled with so many embarassing clunkers and teenage poetry and boring songwriting that it's clearly just out of their depth to make something at that level.
"Love it if We Made It" is a great song, and really nails the "scrolling through the timeline news onslaught as pop song" thing, but that's really it here.

American Idiot is 15 years old.
Also, I think it's a lot more of an analogue to this thing than OK Computer - pop band, very subtext-free songwriting, blah blah blah. but no, this is OK computer because there's a siri song. right

What did American idiot mean to our generation exactly? It was just another entry in a long line of anti-Bush albums that were being made at the time

"What did American idiot mean to our generation exactly? It was just another entry in a long line of anti-Bush albums that were being made at the time"
I mean American idiot was the biggest rock album of the past 20 years and probably the only rock album that EVERYONE had a copy of and listened to below the age of 15. even though it kind of sucks that counts for something.
but also, isn't this album another entry in a long line of anti-Trump, "isn't the internet wild?" albums?

Everyone also had hybrid theory, enema of the state, and tons of other lame albums back then

American Idiot has had a huge cultural impact, and it continues to sell today, it's been adapted into a stage play and soon enough a film. It's still very much talked about, it's still popular, it's considered a landmark album for a lot of people in the same vein as OK Computer. Whilst OK Computer might be more praised on this site, American Idiot still receives acclaim. Hybrid Theory and Enema of the State were popular, and they also made huge cultural impact, but not to the degree American Idiot did.

Album is bad =/= had no impact
Many people enjoyed it to some degree and played it a lot/it was in the mass cultural conscience. Might dislike it, but hard to discount that impact. Same goes with early Linkin Park.
