I think had this been condensed down and really had the higher points focused on and not trying to cram every genre ever into it, it could’ve been so much better. The strong points on here are easily some of their best in their whole discography, but by the same token, the worst are easily their worst. The adult contemporary moments present in the latter half make me wanna crawl into a hole. I could see Celine Dion running with “I Couldn’t Be More In Love.” Just replace Matt’s vocals with hers and I swear it’s the same as her crap
Complaints aside, Love It If We Made It is seriously one of my favorite songs this year.

I love this band but honestly don't get the hype behind this record. It feels insanely disjointed and drags too much for my liking- yet I loved the slower, instrumental tracks on their last record. Maybe it's just me but there's not any songs I cling to besides Love It If We Made It, It's Not Living..., and the last two.

This album really grows after a few listens. Lyricism especially is a major improvement from their past releases. 'Love it if We Made It' may be my favorite song of this year. But god damn, do tracks 2 & 3 completely screw up the flow & cohesion.
Also, anyone else think the choir in Sincerity is Scary is way too high in the mix?

much as i will defend this, the hype surrounding it is curious at best. at least as much of a mess as the last album.

^^this is literally the last album with better songwriting. That’s simply it. It masqueraded the interludes by adding them into the proper songs. It’s not at all different or revolutionary. Simply it. I’ve been waiting for that stance because so many say it’s different from their previous outings. FALSE.

Think this is the first time I've seen an allmusic rating considerably lower than a Pitchfork rating

I don't quite get the insane love for Love It If We Made It. It's a fine song but, and this is gonna be blasphemy, I think even TOOTIME is better.

god I hate that song so much and I don’t know why

TOOTIME is the worst thing the band has ever done.
Love It If We Made It is the best.
Both are outliers and neither fit the album. The rest is meh.
EVEN THOUGH the first verse of Love It If We Made It reminds me of that open mic night poem Jonah Hill screams on 22 Jump Street but honestly that might make it more endearing lol

LORDT to all y’all who think It’s Not Living is a bop/best song on here. I’m not saying it isn’t a bop but listen to Mew’s Visuals album. Every song sounds just like it. You’re welcome. It’s a great song but if I wanted to hear it/hear it done better multiple times I’d look there. Like I was singing it in my head, thinking it was a B-side from that album for a second lol

Man I bop to Visuals very frequently. When I heard It’s Not Living for the first time I immediately thought of it. Lol. The whole 80’s pop with the higher vocals in the background was a dead giveaway. Then I had to jam to Visuals again. It’s very underrated, imo. Way better than this

Review is about right. This is a kinda weak 4 for me right now. (Best thing they've done)
Tbh I think the Bon Iver esque ~experimental~ tracks (Petrichor and America Likes me) are the most exciting thing about this LP and I think they should explore that sound way more than they did on this album. Cut some of the sleepy ballads and replace them with more of that stuff. Also make sure that your pop-singles are quality more than 50% of the time.
1. Love it if we made it 5/5
2. America likes me 5/5
3. It's not living if it's not with you 4.5/5
4. How To Draw/Petrichor 4.5/5
5. Sincerity is Scary 4/5
6. Always wanna die 3.5/5
7. Be my mistake 3.5/5

9. Surrounded by Heads 2.5/5
10. Inside your mind 2.5/5
11. TooTimeToo 2.5/5
12. Mine 2/5
13. Give yourself a Try 1.5/5
14/15 Intro and Siri Love poem filler/5

Inside Your Mind sucks and Mine is a little too cheesy but I adore everything else
The instrumental outro for the Internet song is so wonderful too
