that's because it was produced by Steve Albini and he likes his instruments to sound like real instruments and not extensions of Billy Corgan's penis
might jam this one idk

wtf, not it wasn't lol. Albini never worked with Pumpkins or Billy, Gish & SD were produced by Butch Vig

it may be petty or it may not be but i'm not really a fan (outside of like post-rock or post metal stuff where it makes sense) of the whole ''This random artwork is the cover artwork for the album, no mention of the name of the band or the album title though'' it just looks stupid imo, especially for rock music.

I wish they'd just played KoM's intro melody on guitar instead of Billy singing it. Silvery, Solara and Marchin' On are all solid. With Sympathy, KoM and Seek are decent. Travels and Alienation are a bit too repetitive.
Definitely the tamest I've ever heard Jimmy, I hope he's able to let loose a bit more on Volume 2. It just feels a little too safe, but I'm still optimistic for the next volumes.

Billy seems to be hinting at Vol. 2 being a much heavier/ guitar-based record, here's hoping Rubin doesn't quantize and ProTool the record to death too

he should be behind bars for what he did to the drums on here. this is JIMMY CHAMBERLIN but it might as well be a drum machine loop on most of these. i just cannot get over that, the guy is on the shortlist for best alt rock drummers ever, probably THE best

if you haven't already you should check out Jim's last solo (well, Complex) record - that definitely gives a good dose of raw Chamberlin drummage

nice, i kind of forgot that came out, i’ll definitely give it a listen. life begins again is easily one of the best post-breakup releases

seems like there's a new song coming out tomorrow. clip sounds New Order-ish, could be interesting.

Will always love this band so I'll check - not too hopeful though

i'm in the same boat. there's always some aspect that gives me a glimmer of hope - with shiny 1 it was James and Jimmy being back. but even Billy says it's a non-album, considering how they were going to just release a single and then Rubin said he liked all 8 demos. so now this one is a REAL album that they all supposedly worked on together so that makes me intrigued. but i can't say i'm expecting anything much better than, like, Oceania or Cotillions at this point.
i just want SP to make a live-recorded doomgazey type album that's not concerned with "hits" at all, but that will probably never happen.

Two new singles just dropped, first one is real good so far

They're both new wavey pop rock but they work pretty well for some reason

Colour of Love grew on me quite a bit, not getting there with Cyr yet. they both reminded me of The Future Embrace which isn't a bad thing at all imo.

I didn't like Future Embrace but they're was some good stuff on it
Either way it's looking better than this, I should really revisit this to see why I have this at a 3.5

my guess is these were bundled together because they're stylistically similar and the next singles will be more guitar-centric.
TFE took a long time to grow on me but that guitar tone kept me coming back. these songs could definitely use some thick, woozy solos
