@DeadGuy: I can't fault you for thinking that, they were never the most inventive in the scene.

"The Fall Of Ideals" came out when it was like 16 and it was alright. I remember "It dwells in me" had a pretty cool guitar solo, but shit I was jammin like old school Arch Enemy and At The Gates back then, just couldn't take them as serious as bands like that.

Yeah, I was pretty late to ATR, as you can probably tell since I said A War You Cannot Win was my introductory album, but I'm about 19 now and have been into this style for about six or so years.

I listen to death metal too, but I still thoroughly enjoy Fall of Ideals and This Darkened Heart.

@Hellscythe: Usually I'm ironic when I say that, whenever people say "I don't like this because I'm not 12" that's kinda ageist lmfao but I know it's a buzzword so I'm usually not entirely serious.

don't get some of these super low ratings. this is completely inoffensive at worst, barring maybe that track with Worsnop

"...compared to?"
Basically a lite version of their best previous work, and simultaneously a soulless copy of what any other mainstream metalcore/heavy metal band has been peddling the past few years or so. Phil's vocals have stagnated--they were never THAT good to begin with, I suppose--and the songwriting isn't nearly the level they could be at. Every song sounds so similar, progress very similarly, etc. Didn't think the leads were nearly as attractive as some say.
I think it's a low rating because I don't see it as anything more than a watered-down product of an already watered-down product. But it IS better than Madness, at least.

@Hellscythe: Honestly, I loved the track with Worsnop, but that's because I have a soft spot for that style.
@Mars: Ahh, fair enough. I get that tbh. I think I was just enamored by the return to form that I felt, I dropped it back to a 4 because Just Tell Me Something DID wear off just like a couple other tracks, but it's still one of my favorites of the year, currently #8

It's hard when a band exceeds/falls regarding one's expectations, as it tends to elicit higher praise/detraction than normal. We overrate when a band gives us a shock when no such experience was expected from them, and react quite the opposite when a respected artist goes against their established quality.
I decided to go in with skepticism and it paid off, since I didn't get any hype off of this. People are naturally welcome to disagree and rate as they please, as they very well should. But this ain't my cup of tea, and I don't think these gents will ever make another brew that's my taste.
