OK I see what JS is talking about, that's the classic trick of "running a really shallow idea through a thesaurus until it sounds smart"

that said there are some legit lyrics here, like the Northern Fires bit I quoted earlier

pretty sure the vocalist/lyricist has a Masters in psychology, so it's not like he just whipped out a thesaurus. He's actually a smart cookie

@ButtBoy I'm pretty sure you're right. Just listening to the dude talk you get the idea that he's some kind of savant of life that just delves deep into everything he bothers delving into at all.

He might be, but the use of big words does not denote intelligence.

Either way I'm still listening to this but this is really lacking in dynamics. The music has some interesting technical bits but pacing/structure leaves a lot to be desired

'Nuclear families split apart like the atom

Demagogues proliferate the calloused grip of the state

The future asphyxiates under nativist suspicions

Insipid minds domestic fission'

Agreed that is pretty cringey

Masters in Psychology doesn't mean you aren't churning out really heavy handed prose when you write 'intelligent' song lyrics

It's a shame this band has such an annoying clean vocalist. They could be soooo good with decent choruses

"I'm not convinced there are any good metal lyricists"

Keith Buckley always scratches the itch for me.

"Dual damnations dichotomize me" has to be the most redundant horseshit I've heard in four words or less. The other detractors have a point. Some of these verses land but a great many of them whiff- and HARD. This dude needs a fucking editor.

Lyricism aside, this just seems like average metalcore.
