I love metalcore, and this album is very meh. That's why I don't see the hype, as the hype is coming from the people who love metalcore.

this hasn’t lived up to the hype I was giving it. It’s not bad at all, just nothing amazing by any means

yep, the more I listen the more the clean choruses bother me

like there's so much great stuff here and the lyrics are so great and i just don't get why they insist on cramming totally indistinguishable choruses into every fucking song

the thing is that i have no problems with the presence of cleans - songs on the last album like Psychescape and Inhabit the Wound used them perfectly - i just can't stand how they're used here

Every use of clean vocals on EWS was basically perfect but nearly every use of them here is terrible.

Yeah, I can absolutely feel the amount of effort and passion behind this project and by all accounts this band is a bunch of stellar dudes, but this felt like a real big load of effort to 'get', and sometimes less is more. They definitely appear to have read up on sources though, which is always good!

I think it's nice for a band to put out the reasoning behind their lyrics for fans to enjoy since songwriting in general is often very cryptic. It's been pretty cringe seeing the fan reaction though with the whole 'oh my god this band actually reads books' thing

A more general term would be science-core aka scicore aka what isn't scicore these days
