Yep. They both incorporate prog elements. But that's where the similarities stop.
T/t is superb.

So the album cover is basically A Rush of Blood to the Head

Ha, yeah. Good ol' Travis has been listening to some Coldplay lately...

I will admit that this album lacks the essential flow of the band’s last 2-3 releases but it took about the eighth or ninth listen through before this began to ‘click’. It’s second half is quietly stronger than the opening moments.
If it wasn’t for the lack of smooth transitions, “Vale of Tears” would be a Masterclass in sensational prog rock. Instead there’s an air of half-baked, something missing.

Agreed on Vale of Tears, it has the elements of an amazing song, yet does not seem to flow as a cohesive unit; it feels the song could have been longer?

Maybe not “longer” per se, rather fleshed out? The chorus seems both over and underused. The listener gets the hint of just how ‘good’ it could be but the potential is flattened by the verse, post chorus, pre-chorus progression of the track. For a band that has generally always nailed their transition from section to section it’s like putting a bandaid on a broken bone.

As I said in my review, Vale of Tears gets better as it goes along but the sections don't really progress in that compelling of a way. I'm not really a fan of it before the instrumental part starts.

I like this, little punchier than the previous album which took me a while to appreciate. I can see why people might not feel it though. I just like that there's lots of energy in their music again.

I'm really enjoying this album.

Yea this is pretty ok but it’s nice to see them getting back up on the horse. He’d want that.

I was pretty lukewarm on this at first too but I’m liking it more and more with every listen. I thought Love, Fear... was their best since SLS and this doesn’t quite match up to that for me but it’s pretty damn good regardless. Vale of Tears is hit and miss and Struggle for Survival is overlong but otherwise I like what they’re doing here a lot.

Acid Rain has a nice Marillion & 80's Floyd vibe

Does the vocalist has throat infection while recording slow songs like "The night before" ? He has such an awesome voice in the last album in slower tracks like Afloat, Saturate me and Time Travellers. What happened to his vocals ?

Dude his vox are top notch here. Album has really nice flow with the track order enhancing the peaks/valleys and variety found throughout. The emotion that went with creating this record can really be heard and the atmosphere that permeates it goes well with the autumnal weather at the moment.

Yeah, really enjoy his vox here too. Nice diversity. And he uses that lower register very successfully if you ask me.

I like this album, I think they made some weird choices in some songs (Vale of Tears "Muse" vibe) but in general I really liked it after a few listens. I find Acid Rain to be awesome and Lament is one of the strongest songs I heard in a while from them to be honest.

Vale of tears is fucking badarse, reminds me a lot of that old neo-medieval fps shooter, Strife. This would kick ass as that game's soundtrack
