Foocha Foocha is one of my least favorite DEG songs but the new version should be cool live. At least it’s heavier, which is better than the original version that didn’t even have that going for it.

Yeah, I am looking forward to the album. The title seems more in the style of Sukekiyo, haha.

I dunno, it would be foolish if you didn't approach this without a small volume of caution lol

That goes without saying, but going into it with your mind committed to one side of the spectrum or the other is the wrong way to experience the new album. I’m hoping it’ll be good, but I’m not gonna be blind to potential disappointment

Just jamming this now for the first time in a very long time. Just can’t get the full enjoyment from it because the production is SO bad. The songs are fun enough for the most part, but goddamn they dropped the ball sound wise

I really hope this was a one-time misstep and the new album will be as good as their 2008-2015 output

Low chances... What matters is that they won't somehow manage to make it worse than this.

Why? We've seen bands recover from worse slumps.

They stated multiple times they wanted songs that are easier to play live. The DSS tours had many technical issues along with health problems for some of the members. I can't really blame them if they have become quite disenchanted with that intricate material, and now they're about 10 years older, so things won't be any easier, especially for the vocalist (presuming they'll return to those intense touring schedules in the future). A pity, truly, since those Mode of Uroboros/DSS shows that were filmed a few years ago were outstanding productions, even when taking into account certain imperfections in the performances themselves. I think they can still create an album akin to Arche, which was a wonderful streamlined mix of the older sound, the avant-garde metal elements and some new ideas, but the vision might remain closer to TIW and the recent singles.

Evo is right, it’s not pessimism for the sake of it, there are a number of worrying factors.
This is why they should have just continued touring and stopped recording new albums. Or at the least, write a new album after a long period of time. Obviously wouldn’t happen due to contracts etc, but that would have been ideal. Arche was the perfect way to end their recording output. Just churn out modes or remakes of old songs or something.
If I were to predict the outcome here, I would say it’s going to be marginally better than this.

I always felt like a return to form would be them going back to their roots, with Kyo doing a lot more cleans in that visual-kei style that was on Gauze/Macabre. It would be a cool throwback, and something I know a lot of OG fans would like to hear. Even an album in the style of Kisou would be awesome.

I dunno, that would be super derivative to me for a band that has always pushed forward and made them stand out from their peers
The funny thing about this album is there isn’t a single memorable track here imo. It’s serviceable but forgettable, made worse with that bogging production. So if they can make a couple of standout tracks for the new one, we’re on to a superior offering

Kyo doesn't like the early albums due to that vocal style, so it seems out of character to return to that, but hey, people can change their opinions over time.
Gonzo's outlook on the next album is very fair. I don't consider TIW a total disappointment or misfire and I continue to like it more than most people here, mainly because I wasn't expecting them to actually continue the amazing run and because seeing those fun live renditions of mid-era material in the last decade kinda made me want a studio album with Kyo's post-Uroboros vocals over simpler, energetic compositions, something that TIW delivered.
