I'm going to disagree with this somewhat. Staying in the loop with popular trends sometimes works out for artists, like Madonna and arguably David Bowie, but the real trick to longevity is to transcend popular trends. You can't keep making music for teenagers because teenagers grow up and are replaced by new teenagers who like different things than the old teenagers and there are new artists who will be better at connecting with new teenagers.

Apart from that pedantic point, good review!
