This is somehow more pretentious than Notion. It's affectatious as hell, and feigns every single one of its complexities, knowingly or otherwise. I like it. Edit: On second thought... :/
Oh, and nice job with the edits Josh, I like the review even more now. (:

“This is like Lorde meets Julien Baker meets Tame Impala with guitar solos”

Hmm I didn't find it pretentious at all I found it more so ambitious but to each their own. Sorry you didn't enjoy it as much as I did blush but glad to hear the review reads better! Thanks for giving it another glance!

Hm. Pretentious might've been too harsh. I think what I don't like, though, is that all this grandiose instrumentation seems to distract from how simple and careless the song-writing sounds to me. Because it's what she got popular for, I think she's begun to just roll with it, and so there are no songs on this (to me) even a little as good as the EP's highlights. I'm not convinced with her as an instrumentalist either; it enamoured me when I saw her live a couple of years back, but I think her prowess is overstated and, again, distracting. I don't know. I don't mean to anti-hype, she deserves the success and I'm glad you guys are digging this. :3

is she known as the hack of the aussie music scene? so much vitriol
why does she deserve the success if you think she sucks lol

"is she known as the hack of the aussie music scene? so much vitriol'
A little bit, but also she's arguably one of the biggest in the Melbourne scene. A lot bigger than Courtney Barnett, certainly, and well-liked in general. Hard to avoid her on the radio and a bunch of her videos became massive on Facebook some time ago. Probably some weird prejudice there -- she's far from the best we have to offer, despite being (maybe) the most popular.
And I don't know!! She seems like an okay person. I think her music sucks but people like her and she's making big moves; there must be something she's doing right. I don't get it, but it's cool.

It's a bit odd to me, she's clearly a talented and well rounded instrumentalist. I don't find the instrumentalist nature of her music to get in the way of things but actually add more grandeur to her image. Her persona is one of a music enthusiast that makes what she wants to make, so I also admire that a great deal. I don't buy into the belief that she's just rolling with what people like. I see a great deal of passion in her recent performances and she comes off down to earth, genuine and free spirited. I can't help but feel you have a bit of internal bias there Blush haha

So whats the problem here? Main thing that bothers me is that I wish the songs were a bit tighter in places and the transitions are really rough imo

Found this because Blackbirds is a song for League of Legends Worlds Championship, and it sounded really good. Whole record seems to have the same quality, good stuff!
