ilu sput...thanks for making my morning a bit more interesting
I learned three new words from this review but I'm still no closer to solidifying my position on the album itself.
"i'm tired of apologizing for knowing words that mean specifically what i want them to" - damn, literal hell for a writer I imagine

wines before pearls would have been a great thing to put in the box fuck
i get that this warrants a few public scoldings/scaldings and i do take your good faith criticism on board, even if it isn't evidenced on sput, which i basically use as a blessed reprieve from agonising over rewrites and a concision i've been trained in. duly noted. thanks to everyone who nourished my ego too!!! i think this is a divisive album that, more than others, means different things to different people and that i still think about it months after release is testament to it's importance on some level, even if i don't like it!
@plane idk i think Product is much weirder and I never bought that PC Music was arch or removed -- it was just lovely, glorious tunes that tilted at thematic concerns seen here in a descriptive, rather than prescriptive way. there's something to be said for straight-forwardness in todays climate: i would argue it was there all along, along with other dimensions, and Sophies success in walking that tightrope without plunging was frankly miraculous. i think we call agree that this is just a take and i will always champion Product too!!!
as an aside i didn't want to target the Queer angle too much in the review, aside from a slew of shoe-horned allusions, because i can't reaaaally comment from that perspective (other than that Sophie's tunes were adopted into a Queer canon before she came out). here are some interesting interpretations from that lens, some of which I agree with, some of which I don't, but which are well worth reading for fans and detractors of the album alike:

I wish more people would understand that sheer verbosity does not a good review make
Abortis's point was 100% wrong and I agree with the reviewer's opinion in general, but the disjointed structure of this review (intentional or not) makes it a bit of an eyesore IMO
