new EP is Zel's most interesting work in a while, too bad Kenny's beats are boring as fuck.
|
| |
Caring a shit ton about beats seems kind or superficial to me. Listen to tons of rap (especially old rap) that is sort of flat beat-wise but makes up for it with atmosphere, lyrics, samples, music

I'm not familiar with kenny's stuff but I don't think you can make a real argument that the beats/prod on the new EP = bad, boring, or anything of the sort.
Shit is utterly fantastic, and Zel sounds more confident than ever

I mean Denzel is a formidable lyricist and technical rapper but beats still basically make or break a track for me. Whether it’s modern or oldhead shit. I know it’s not fair to the artist but if the beat is garbage I won’t be re spinning it. On the other hand I like a lot of playboi carti despite more/less hating his actual input
Although I worded this the wrong way coz I thought the new Denzel tape was rock solid
|
| |
Yeah idk like I said I find that very superficial, much prefer atmosphere and actual musical merit over beats

I mean, i could, but that just would just fly by you, so why bother.
Gyro, bro, if i just cared about delivery, word-play and flow and nothing else, i'd like slam poetry, and i fucking HATE slam poetry.
Beats are 50% of a track, it's obviously subjective on how you value them, but that's just how it is. Yes, the old hip hop production style might be rudimentary by today's standards, but that's why historic context is needed to give fair criticism to a piece of media.
