I expected these guys to be pretty big dudes like the guys in Temple of Void as the style is similar. Just feels like a lot of testosterone and heavy weights, but no these guys are definitely not that in person. Haha

the vast majority of death metal band members don't look like the guys in Temple of Void, so im not surprised.

I only listen to death metal if the members look like some One Direction soyboys. Masculinity scares me.

Stage presence is pretty significant for a good show. Dudes in Meshuggah, Cannibal Corpse, Amon Amarth and surely many others look like they represent their music well.
Then you see Alexi of Bodom come on stage... lol
and compare, for example, Skeletonwitch with Chance or with the new guy. Chance looked like he IS Skeletonwitch and the new guy simply doesnt.

For the record, I like Temple more than these guys. But they are definitely comparable.
As for stage presence I implore you not to go to a Morbid Angel show. Trey is still pretty cool, but David looks like Rourke in The Wrestler, still trying to rock that leather outfit.

idk man, sometimes guys seem like they're trying way too hard to look like tough hardcore metal-heads when they'd be better off letting the music do the talking. It amuses me greatly how a fair amount of mainstream not-that-heavy metal bands look like the collective embodiment of hell itself, whereas a lot of underground extreme metal artists don't subscribe to that sort of aesthetic. Of course you have notable exceptions on both sides.
P.S. This is also true (perhaps more so) in metal fans.

@demon: it only matters if you make the music a fashion statement imo. if some people see that as part of their stage presence or it's just how they like to look anyways then I'm absolutely fine with it. if people don't then that's cool too. I guess I just don't care too much how the bands look on stage, because as you say, it's the music I'm there for anyways.

Sure, of course I’m cool with that. I can’t help but feel some may try and ‘force’ the image side of things but then I guess that can be the case in many areas of society, not just in music.

Well I'm listening to Type O Negative for the first time now and just read they firstly were meant to be called Sub Zero and filled they re body with "O-" tatoos, only when they signed with Roadruner they aknoweledged the name has allready been taken. lol The band is filled with hilarious stories and yet remain pretty groundbreaking. I hate the dudes image tbh but I don't care lol
