For sure. They are amazing songwriters and up to a point they constantly evolved. Other '90s bands evolved as well but very few with the success of Amorphis.
And hell yeah, Finland rules. [2] - Finnish black metal is pretty sweet too.

Nope. The folk tag is intriguing but something tells me that this isn't your standard folk.

Great read, rating is too low but I get your point of view. The 6+ min tracks are my favourites for now.

I feel bad about this one honestly, I liked all the other amorphis Ive heard and it took me a while to figure out why this one wasn’t clicking. Really felt like something I shouldve loved.

Interesting review.
“The Bee” wants us to think it has a lot going on, but in reality it’s deceptively simple to the point of being uninteresting.
Does it? It does what an Amorphis opener should do, it's powerful, driving, and catchy. Your review seems very focused on what this album isn’t, an expectation of an Amorphis album being progressive and complex. It’s an interesting, arguably unwarranted, expectation to me given the formulaic song writing of every single Joutsen era album. New Amorphis has always been easy listening melodeath, a nice break from more extreme metal, and that’s why I enjoy them in my rotation personally. Their current-era song writing is consistently competent but when has it ever turned any heads?

I don't think it's an expectation from the band name (especially considering that I have very hazy memories of the other albums ive heard) but an expectation from what the music tried to get across. The album felt like it was supposed to be a lot more dense and interesting than what it was at heart. Some of it does get pretty interesting, but every time I listen to The Bee or a couple other tracks I can only hear how basic so much of it is that's hidden by there being so many electronics and such going on.

Gotcha, yeah you probably won't find what you're looking for in their more recent discog.

I have their last album at a 4, but like I said, I have pretty hazy memories of them.

How can it be basic when there is so much going on? So if they had taken each individual element and spread it over a 14-minute slog-fest Opeth-style, then it wouldn't have been basic?

Well there such a thing where there's so much going on where it all bleeds together to make it sound basic. At least that's what I think he's trying to get at.
That's basically my problem with the early Epica albums so if that's the case then I get where he's coming from.
