I'll probably do a review on it once I've listened to it a bit more

I'd review it myself but it'd be too annoying to try to reconcile my obvious bias towards one of my longtime favorite acts (and that 4/5 rating) with their objective above average radio rock delivery and how I/others may feel about the lyrics/overarching message. I'd rather just drop my rating and walk away, ha. So I look forward to reading your take!

well, assuming that I have the drive to do it lmao

tbh I haven't had the willingness to write anything on here for a long time, hence the lack of any reviews from me. I'll give it a shot though

also I just noticed that someone ghost neg'd my reviews lmao

New one is really growing on me. It's gonna get some hate for the center-right political lyrics and general whining about cancel culture, but the songs rock for the most part. 'Army of the Underappreciated', 'America Burning', 'No Sleep Tonight', and 'Sure is Fun' are all outstanding, and 'A Symptom of Being Human' and 'Hope' are two of their better ballads. Attention Attention and Amaryllis both had more noticeably grandiose peaks (with more accessible leans), but Planet Zero is just a very consistent radio rock album which proves Shinedown can still be a cut above their peers, when they actually want to be.

No Sleep Tonight is a solid opener

i’m honestly pretty off put by the weird interludes that don’t do much for me

album tho is pretty fun, opener is one of their best songs... still trying to get into a lot of the ballads but they’re still decent

the interludes just feel like watered down 1984isms, I don't think they add anything at all musically but without them I'm not sure that the concept would totally take hold so I get why they included them

It's pretty loose and tbh kind of lazy; lots of railing against cancel culture & social media, vague allusions to aliens and the end of the world, and messages of hope through promoting individualism -- little of it is eloquent or coherent enough to be moving. In some sense I suppose it's no more or less ridiculous than other concept albums of a similar ilk (Styx's Kilroy Was Here is one that immediately came to mind because that one's theme was technology displacing the human experience), but regardless I'm here for the music and for the most part the songs are consistently good. Any jollies I get from the absurd imagery of "Planet Zero" is just bonus entertainment.

yeah the only "concept" part of the album is in the interludes really, frankly the album would've been much better without them, just feels like they're trying to shove the message down your throat more than they already are.

I now think Planet Zero is at least on par with this and Amaryllis. It's super consistent.
