I'm still kinda shocked by this albums lower scores, it's easily imo their best work.

I hope they release something like Altered State with the sound they have now. This record is cool, but it feels short and not really like a true record, more like an EP. I love everything though, except Luminary. The intro riff is killer but the rest off the song just doesn't do a thing for me. Would love to see them work with an external producer/mixer, they would sound AMAZING with more organic production. That's always been my main gripe with these guys, that's why I still like the debut so much

big disagree on changing producers / mixers, but would certainly love some hints of AS in the next release.

On second thought, a producer may not be a terrible idea. But I don't want anyone else touching the mix. They sound monstrous, and replicate it live perfectly. It's one of the most impressive things about them, imo. My earplugs come out when I see them, and I've had tinnitus since the late '00s and can hardly suffer live music without.

idk why but I just read this whole thread
It's kind of funny how it started as a divisive album, but the tone shifted over time to a general consensus that the heavy songs are top-tier bangers and everyone just wanted more.

Heavy stuff was good, but I need more of Mirror image tunes anyway

not even close to their best work. i usually only spin this for juno and smile

The heavy parts are great tbh. Stuff like Luminary starts out strong but loses steam because of uninteresting melodies. I see this a lot with this band, but nothing has been as generic as Luminary so far

Every time I cycle back to this I am surprised by how much I anticipate King, Juno and Smile / The Arrow.
Like I see those as Tess god-tier now. Defining moments.

Juno is like everything they do best. Too bad this album is such a mixed bag for me, but the good bits are just awesome.
King me BOOOOW! DOOOOWN!

Dude, if the new Cinematic live show confirms my theory on the concept behind this album I'm gonna flip.

what's your theory?
I've noticed that, even though Altered state resides somewhere in my favorite albums of all time list, I listen to Sonder WAY THE FUCK more. I even came around on Luminary a bit lately. In short doses it still works.
King, Juno and Smile / The Arrow though... them's the goods. This album sounds like machines the size of fucking planets grinding away, and I still can't get over it.

I didn't see the live show but I'd love to hear your theory, WalrusTusk
