This is surprisingly decent. Not sure quite how much I like it yet, but it's definitely earned further inspection.

she's got such a lovely voice for the mainstream, but her style is more reserved

From the backlash this started getting after it had been out for a while I thought it would grow off but nope, still as blissful as ever

Backlash is the wrong word but after it had been out for a few weeks and getting rave reviews a lot of negativity started coming it's way, starting around the time Fantano released his review. Don't go thinking you started some kind of revolt Doof ;)

I want a strong opinion damn it, instead this is just 'quite pleasant'. It falls away quite severely after Happy & Sad for me. Her voice is excellent though, admittedly.

"It falls away quite severely after Happy & Sad for me. Her voice is excellent though, admittedly."
I can see this. The album is definitely front-loaded, but the latter half has some fantastic songs too, most notably, "Golden Hour" and "High Horse".

"Slow Burn", "Lonely Weekend", "Oh What a World", "Mother", and "Love Is a Wild Thing" is an impossible set of songs to follow. The album would have perhaps been better serviced by throwing a couple of those towards the end, but I still think this thing is damn near perfect. At any rate, it's racked up my most plays of the year by a considerable margin, according to last.fm

The opening stretch is straight hits, only downside after that is Velvet Elvis and Wonder Woman. A two-song dip in a brilliant album is tolerable, doesn't diminish my enjoyment of the record.

"Velvet Elvis" is excellent, "Wonder Woman" suffers from a dull chorus tho. That and "Butterflies" are the weakest songs imo

Cute girl singing well and playing (country) pop (did I mention the girl is cute) so it must be good
|

this is surprisingly quite enjoyable though

Gyro what about Happy & Sad? That's one of my favorite choruses.
|
| |
i mean it's still very vapid and overproduced pop but I actually enjoyed most of what I heard so w/e. The first 5 songs are really good and the rest is okay

"Vapid pop" is the most useless criticism ever, because you're basically attacking the genre as a whole. It's not like you ever see anyone saying "vapid metal" or "vapid post-rock". Moreover, how is this vapid? This is teeming with life and colour. These tracks are bolstered by crazy infectious choruses and some lovely guitar playing. And 'overproduced'? The production is stellar. Are you advocating this have worse production?
Sowing: "Happy & Sad" is top notch, for sure. I thought the commenter I was responding to said he liked everything up until and including that track tho, so I made mention of the songs after it.
