It's not butthurt, it's actual worry for hawk's legacy.
When I was a noob here he was my favourite poster. Now I bascially dread opening any threads he might be in, because I might get slapped in the face with his infantile lulz. It's clearly trolling now or he thinks a joke can actually be funny the 10000000. time you hear it. I don't know what's worse.

Also he shits on desdi. It was great when s/he popped in with a trademark comment, but now Hawks has tortured desdi to death and ruined the joke.

AHHHHH it was good to get that off my chest. Carry on!

'Listen to Calculating Infinity instead'

Now don't get me wrong I love CI, but how exactly are the two comparable beyond mostly superficial genre similarities?

Uh. They are just both mathcore. And I wouldnt call it superficial. Mathcore is quite defined.

This owes just as much to prog and post rock as it does to mathcore tbh. Calculating Infinity is a better album for sure, but I wouldn't listen to this if I wanted mathcore

Hm it owes something to post-rock definately but not sure about prog though.

Mathcore has been the core of their sound since their debut. I wouldnt say they exist exactly between the genres (I cant imagine that working but who knows)

Then again, most mathcore and post-rock has a little prog in them. But rarely overt

I can’t even imagine comparing this album to Dillinger in anyway other than the one riff in Alma Mater... in their early stuff MAYBE but now the influence is next to none.

"Mathcore has been the core of their sound since their debut. I wouldnt say they exist exactly between the genres (I cant imagine that working but who knows) "

Agreed, I think it'd be fair to pigeonhole all their other albums as mathcore. This one sets out to be something more though

I’d even go out on a limb and say they shed most of the mathcore on Grievances

I can accept any of their releases being pigeonholed in such a way except this one, agreed there

I was wrong about this record. It's rather good after all.

"I’d even go out on a limb and say they shed most of the mathcore on Grievances"

The first 5 seconds of that album alone are a pretty solid refutation of that. They definitely explored more territory, but it mostly had a mathy foundation

Yeah I guess you’re right, there’s still a fair bit of Dillinger worship on it

I hear the Dillinger comparisons in the drumming for sure. Apart from that I agree.

never once did it cross my mind that this band might be religious, never looked at the lyrics too closely because I was so caught up in the atmosphere
