Absolutely. It's almost a shame that this was released in February as you can't really look outside and observe the vibe that the album sets.

I actually think it has sort of a wintry feel most of the time...maybe that's just my perception.

To each. The sound here is fairly identical throughout, so if you dislike one song chances are the whole thing isn't for you. Still cool you gave it a chance, though.

I wish the vocals had a little more ring to them. So far my biggest gripe, but the album is indeed sweet.

Yeah, I totally get that. If you haven't checked the final three songs I would, he delivers a lot more power there.

Not a bad score by any means. Glad you enjoyed it to some degree!

I liked the chilling atmosphere of solitude. I just wish there as a little more to it most of the time than just a breathy vocaled guy with a softer than necessary guitar.

I could tell already by the album art that this was going to be a sowing review

Again a killer artwork leads me to a killer album. Landmarks is really great. Other songs that left a strong impression on first listen are Golden October, Into the Ocean and Abhainn. I also remember something cool in the last part of Contrails. Will definitely come back

First of all, the album's growing on me actually. Just listened to Usurpress' newest and needed some minor foggy relief, which this album served perfectly as, so in that regard it is great.

Second of all, did I get reported again for my 'long-name' comparison comments? I'm sorry I get swayed away sometimes...

Not reported I just cleared it out, didn't add much to the thread - sorry. Glad you've settled on a score, could see a 3.5 for this. A lot depends on how captivating you find their particular brand of atmospheric folk.

I mean I like Of Monsters and Men a lot, so this subdued forest-y folk with a nodge of explosion I am all in for, but here the payoff is rather minimal or underwhelming. (and I realise that it isn't exactly all about that, but some people enjoy the journey and some just want that journey to turn into something fruitful by the end)

I'd argue this definitely turns into something fruitful, it's not as kitschy as Of Monsters and Men (which IMO is a poor comparison to begin with, but I understand where it came from if folk isn't your main forte). Those final three tracks are all huge payoffs for me, although there are other rewarding culminations to be found as well (Golden October is basically one long build-up). As always you're entitled to your opinion, I just happen to disagree :-)
