20/20 pt 1 is fucking incredible. One of the only pop albums I have on vinyl.

Wouldn’t mind grabbing that on vinyl myself... that album and 24K Magic (with ironically the same producer) made me do a complete 180 on my opinion towards pop music

I hate having to qualify that I like Timberlake's music, but 20/20 was an amazing pop album

It certainly is. This, however, is a few leagues away.

handful of tracks on this were randomly stuck in my head today. T/T and Breeze off the Pond at the very least are pretty fire, higher higher and montana have a decent funky vibe as well.
also don't hate filthy or livin' off the land as much as some people.
Supplies is SO fucking terrible tho. the lows on this reach the abyss.

I was just thinking about why JT hadn't released anything since 20/20 experience ... then looked him up and remembered this exists

Yeah it's hard to reconcile that Blue Ocean Floor and Flannel were both created by the same person

Timbaland is behind most of the creative genius of the 20/20 experience. Justin needs fantastic producers otherwise he goes off the deep end.

I believe JT will rebound from this train wreak of an album.... may take a decade tho.

I don't think I've played through a full album of his, but I'm kinda diggin this right now... 'bout 5 songs in.
Edit: Got a bit tired of it halfway through, but that's pretty standard for me when it comes to mainstream pop. It wasn't bad though.

I'm still mad over what this could have been. Amazing idea, embarrassing execution. Had he taken notes on experimental folk (listened to a few Bon Iver albums, I dunno) and fused it with some ambience/nature samples (a la Teen Daze), and gone about it all with his usual confidence and pop flair, we would have had a genre trailblazer. Instead he just sang about flannel and horses on half the tracks and completely disregarded the concept in the other half of the songs.

trying to get in on the burgeoning indie folk craze does not make this an "amazing idea" IMO, it's just a sloppy mess of an album

I just like it when pop artists aim high. I remember watching a trailer/teaser for this which sold it as an homage to rural/family roots and folk/Americana, and it's barely anything of the sort. I thought it was going to see him cross over into the indie sphere. I guess that's not an amazing idea by anyone's standards, but considering my genre preferences and my love for JT, I thought it was going to be a match made in heaven.

I agree with Sowing, he oversold the concept in the marketing. Made it look like this album would be a trip. Like a White Album approach. But, even if it’s disappointing, I can’t say I’m surprised at the result.

That's just it. He built it up to be some sort of artistic statement.
Found the trailer that got me so hyped, lol:
