"I don't hear any problems with production and maybe you don't EQ right out your speakers/headphones are very poor or broken. It's not as synthetic sounding as last two albums so that's a good thing in my book and instrumental separation is spot on. Love how they mostly replaced synths with vocals that make the whole thing sound ethereal. Drum patterns in left->center->right loop make the whole voyage sound like a ritual and add to overall sound-stage so it's pretty fun. My hearing is pretty much shit and sound system a budget one but you are rambling about production and nitpicking. Caladan Brood put out a single album in a decade so an album in 5 years seems right to me for this genre.
The production is absolutely terrible, get over yourself. It completely neuters everything that makes this band amazing. Even with regular black metal, the production is very important in terms of the how the atmosphere is presented. Its even moreso w/atmospheric black metal. And then even moreso than that w/a band like Summoning. It's great that YOU enjoyed it, but it's not a nitpick it's a major problem when 95% of what makes this band great is their atmosphere and how it's conveyed by the production.

What? Production works perfectly for the atmosphere :/

Sevengill, you recommended Skialykon that has murky and flat as f**k hitting a cardboard box sound with no impact on drums whatsoever, cymbals that are barely audible, and overall dull kvlt low fi vibe and think this has production issues? Skialykons music is interesting and composition flows nicely so tnx for the recommendation, I'll be spinning it tonight, but it's an different beast completely. If you think that is what great sound should be well, allrighty then, this Summoning albums sounds to me like a Summoning album and I don't find anything wrong with that. Very similar to Oath Bound and Old Mornings Dawn. If Doom sounds sibilant to you, that's your listening devices, EQ and whatnot.

Silvertine forever ♥

thankfully I'm not hearing the bad production, tho I haven't listened to it on headphones yet
the only thing that bothers me, which I'm not sure is a conscious decision or not, is that static-sounding guitar in the background of most riffs. not sure if it's actually static or intentional. seems to lack structure compared to what they did on say, Stronghold or LMHSYF

The first song is really sweet, and then the rest is basically a weaker version of the last record.
|
| |
Hmm I would say the first song is a weaker version of a song from the last record. the rest (minus the closer which is another inferior retread) are actually really good, with Herumor being a standout and one of their best songs to date
