"Relentless, unadulterated hedonism." - Like someone who's addicted to cocaine?
The introspection is sprinkled through-out, just like on Old, which coalesces into the final track where he states he does this and portrays this so we don't have to. There's very obviously no lack of self-judgment here. What's hedonistic about getting nosebleeds, going numb, and dissociating from society?
Danny's always been crass, it was just portrayed in a manner that a sober listener can easily compartmentalize on XXX.
"Atrocity Exhibition is about relapsing into old habits and treading back into dark territory while in stubborn denial." - This is EXACTLY why this is an accurate artistic portrayal of addiction. Also why "uknowwhatimsayin?" is a significant entry into his discography, as he's trying to leave behind his old crutches to "live his best life," as the excitement of success (and readily available drugs that come with it) is starting to wear off.
"Most songs consist of tinkering pianos, blurbs and beeps not out of place on an electronica track, and Wilhelm screams thrown in for (seemingly) the heck of it."
Is there piano on more than one track here? Isn't most hip-hop electronically based? Electronica is a really vague reference, considering how vast it is with sub-genres. What's one actual spot on here where he does a Wilhelm scream? I seriously have no clue what you're referencing with that. Pointing out specific examples would be immensely helpful.
"Really Doe... post-apocalyptic." / "Emphasis on edge over musicianship."
B... This is a hip-hop album. lol
We're talking about a genre that focuses on conceptual portrayals of human behavior, vivid and carefully-yet-loosely-placed lyricism, stylistic purpose, meaning of identity... If you're getting upset with his behavior here, wait til you learn about what having an addictive personality is actually like.

Look, all I'm really saying here is that, in my experience, people who may have been born crack-addicted, and who do not put limitations on their own habits and behaviors, have a VERY hard time listening to Danny Brown, and it's not specifically because of his style.
People can dislike him all they want. Honestly, it's logical. I'm just a sucker for conceptual cohesion and accurate portrayals of human psyche, and I think the way he's received by the public perfectly reflects on the public itself.
