Shiina on the front page in the featured reviews? Holy shit. Nice one, Fripp.

Gave this a spin last night. I need to let it sink in a couple more times, but I enjoyed it. Still hoping for her to give us a real album soon. I think the production is better on here than the 1st Reimport. I only remember one track being a lot louder than the rest.

Her mastering has always been so-so

this would probably be better sounding than her last few albums

it works with the earlier albums because those albums are relatively loud and in your face to begin with

it doesn't work for the jazz pop records, which desperately need better dynamics. Hi Izuru Tokoro is honestly one of the brightest sounding records I've ever heard, it's far too shrill for its own good.

Yeah, best to start with Ringo from her first album and see how she's changed.

Muzai (some of the songs are pretty bland, but she'd perfect that sound on Shouso)

@bore ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i'd only say Sanmon Gossip isn't that great. Heisei is a great record, although that's not really a jazz pop record to begin with.

Hi Izuru Tokoro is honestly one of the brightest sounding records I've ever heard, it's far too shrill for its own good [2] Except for the 2nd track which is such a banger.

Also Sanmon and Dynamite Out are essential Shiina, blegh.

Not sure if I should give up on waiting for Shiina to release a new album that has its own unique sonic identity. As much as I love jazz pop Shiina, all of her albums from Sanmon Gossip onwards have felt more like a collage of sounds she likes (and does well)...

There's a part of me that's hoping that she's just stalling with these self-covers and singles albums and she's got another masterpiece brewing.

The brightness of Hi Izuro Tokoro doesn't bother me at all apart from the opening and autotune tracks. But yeah, on this album the fourth track hit me like an absolute truck, I'm sure that was the point but I'm not sure how much I liked it.
