My rating for this is probably too high, don't really want to put myself through listening again. I managed it 3 times & that feels like enough. There are no hooks here whatsoever.
I say this as someone who enjoys the majority of Bjork's material.

Eh Björk obviously doesn't care for hooks anymore at all and that's okay with me. Won't dispute that this isn't a masterpiece though, for that the middle is just too inconsistent.

It's not as though Biophilia or Vulincura were particularly hook-laden but this takes the biscuit. I can see how people might enjoy the feeling of losing themselves in the unstructured & dreamlike nature of this album, although personally it's off-putting. I don't think it showcases Bjork at her best vocally & all the orchestral 'arty' instrumentals sound messy & unfocused.
I like more vocally driven, darker & song focused Bjork which is essentially the antithesis of this album conceptually, at least that's how I interpret it anyway.

I can't argue with any of those points but I still enjoyed the record. It had a pleasant soothing quality, and although it lacks traditional hooks, I still find snippets of it coming back to me now and then.

Yeah, the overall feeling of this (mostly the atmosphere and production) carry it over the weaker moments imo - except for Sue Me, that's one of her worst songs ever imo. I already mentioned it, but I like this mostly for the world it creates, even though there isn't much particularly exciting happening in that world. More of an atmospheric album than a catchy one...
Despite that, Arisen My Senses and Saint are absolutely incredible songs on their own and would have been stand-outs on most Björk albums

biggest problem with the record are the swathes of runtime dedicated to minor tweaks between soundscapes/abstract vocal verses. good for background listening but not much going on if you're really trying to sink your teeth in
