This album is lacking in substance. It doesn't have anything to do with it being too poppy or too gay, I just don't find it nearly as creative as his last two, or nearly as emotional (barring a couple songs, like Bog). Some of It's grown on me though so I'll continue playing it. Not a bad album, just disappointing for Baths

The emotion isn't gone - i mean, just listen to human bog. But i definitely do prefer his more vulnerable side. Drawn to songs like miasma sky and departure far more than his poppier stuff

rawness I guess, is gone to a degree. there’s a couple moments here that rival his more emotional stuff. it’s really a mishmash of both and there’s definitely an appeal to that.

con: yeah i'm mostly in agreement with you and your review. like, the emotional side is definitely absent on most of this, which (for me at least) kind of sucks. that isn't to say i wish this guy were depressed more lol, but his best work comes from dark corners. some of this is still quite dark and revealing, like human bog, but on the whole it's a really mixed bag

Mixed bag is the perfect description for this, at least in terms of my level of enjoyment. I really don't care for the upbeat songs; a lot of the layering on the vocals is almost annoying.
