Be kinda cool if they took their current line up and re-recorded this one and viva emptiness.
Great album though, definitely a turning point for em and Jonas only got better from here.

It’s really good if you enjoy music that mixes alt metal, gothic metal, and doom metal all in one package

Wish i could go back in time, and meet my 20 years old version, and tell him(me)to stop listening to Nu-metal and pay more attention to bands like Katatonia, Opeth, Tiamat, etc.

20 years on, I am still mightily confused how this album has a pretty average rating here. It's gotta be one of the decades best albums, across any genre.

A 4 is like more of a great rating than an average one. Personally I'd rank this towards the bottom of my Katatonia ranking cos the songs are a bit inconsistent and Jonas' vox are still pretty rough. I think the stretch from Discouraged Ones to this has Jonas' weakest vocals (especially Tonight's Decision) but I'd imagine it had something to do with him recovering his vocal cords. I think the songwriting/vocals would vastly improve on Viva Emptiness onward. Guess this falls in the same boat as Anathema's Alternative 4 for me where it's a transitionary album that I'd had to have been there to really understand its praise.

This has 3 of my top katatonia tracks, disposession, teargas and tonights music. Im not sure katatonia has ever been very consistent for a whole album, closest to that I think would be the great cold distance.

I just freakin love the sound of this album so much. Its really something special. So warm and inviting somehow. Idk how to describe it, it just works. Jonas' vocals might sound awkward at first but they are perfect.
